I work in the retail business, pretty much like most other young people, and i cant help but notice an odd change in the last few years in this kind of industry.
1. DISCOUNT:Whats with everyone always wanting discount off of everything?sure its nice to get a bargain but hey mate people need to make a living here so how about you pay that price thats nicely been printed onto that tag for ya ;) and if there having a hard time reading it im sure one of our lovely, friendly (and hellishly loathing you) members of staff can scan ti and tell you that price out loud! I mean there not special so why do they get a purchasing bonus of discount.....isn't that the whole point of working in the first place.
2.VAGUENESS:Now when im wanting to make a purchase, generally big or small, i will research the product first so i dont go into a shop like a cleaned up zombie. Now i happen to work in a bike shop but when you ask if there ok and the response you get is 'im looking for a bike', ya just wanna say NO SHIT SHERLOCK YOUR IN THE RIGHT FUCKING PLACE!!! now really it takes what 10-20 mins of your super busy schedule, but dont worry you weren't born with that phone in your hand it can be put down.so please the next time your going to make a purchase at least know what the hell your looking at, its not hard.
3.RUDENESS:When i get asked if i need any help (and because of the above point i normally dont need any), i will politely say 'no im good thanks' with a look to at least let the person know they are there because yes every other day of the week im in that place too so when i myself ask someone and im met with a grunt that would indeed make our Neanderthal ancestors possibly jealous and what could be described as a grimace all i can think if FUCK OFF! I know it can be quite annoying sometimes when all you really want to do is look but come on, we've all been there pushed by our managers to run after the customers like little lap dogs after that next big sale! So please cut us some slack, we hate doing it as much as you hate receiving it so lets have a mutual agreement, you give us some acknowledgment that we exist as humans and we'll not bother you until you want us too.deal? deal!
4.STUPIDITY:do people really need protecting from themselves?it would appear so yes.recently we have had to do a health and safety check ont he whole shop, now general major safety yes, but having to label every single bump, lump, nick and hole really takes the piss.come on people we were blessed with colour vision and brains so lets be good and use them shall we?I mean people if you fall down its your fault, you cant blame someone else for all your stupidities! if you walked in a woodland and tripped on a route would you sue the tree for not anticipating years in advance you may walk there oblivious to everything?or would it be the council for not trimming them down properly for you?
And last but not least number.....
5.MAIN MANAGERS: Yes they are the bane of the average workers life but sometimes why do we need them.In recent trends they do even seem to deal with customers complaints unless they get really out of hand an alot of the time they dont even help to make the environment better for the workers, if anything they make it more hostile and divided!They say they want workers to coem tot hem with problems but do they really?really?all it means is either more paperwork for them or just a ton more hassle, and do they really want to listen to you as a worker when the person telling them to do something promises a nice little rise in their pay packet if they do ;) Yes im am an unhappy worker and i work with many unhappy workers, we dont ask for much but when there not even met with a serious response but a 'you'll be fine' it kind of takes the piss.
Id like to say lets revolt against these people but at the end of the day we need the money, yes the source of all our unhappiness, though anyone will have you believe it makes you happy. I wouldn't be surprised if soon were asked for sexual favours in addition to their products that they just got discount off...because another shop does! and when the only person you have to turn to is that manager....well id be lubing up my friend because just like the rest of us your about to be royally fucked!
